Cocorox™ Grow Media

Cocorox™ Soilless Grow Media

Cocorox is a blend of Botanicare’s high pith Cocogro® coir fiber and Hydrolite®, a silica based rock buffered with Pure Blend Pro®. Formulated for use in re-circulating hydroponic systems and run to waste container gardens, this ultra-convenient grow media provides an ideal air to water ratio throughout the root zone. Its high CEC rating accelerates plant growth, while strengthening cell walls, leading to robust root systems, and increased yields.

Formed from freshwater volcanic deposits, Hydrolite is composed of 70% silica and has a unique crystalline structure that provides unmatched drainage and uniform aeration. Hydrolite’s high CEC rating allows it to retain positively charged ions (cations) such as Nitrogen, Potassium, Magnesium, Iron, Calcium and more. Blending Hydrolite with Botanicare’s high pith coconut coir, creates an ideal air to water ratio throughout the root zone making Cocorox a superior soilless grow medium for hydroponic cultivation.

Cocorox is buffered with Pure Blend Pro® which helps to reduce transplant shock and stimulate new root growth. It is also treated with the all natural wetting agent, Yucca Extract, to ensure even hydration and nutrient saturation. Adding Hydrolite to coco coir increases the coir’s natural CEC rating and maximizes nutrient uptake leading Cocorox to support vigorous growth rates, robust root systems, and increased yields.

Coco Coir based grow mediums have quickly become the preferred alternative to traditional peat-based soils among professional growers:

  • Coco coir preserves nutrients in the root zone and reduces wasteful leaching.
  • Coco coir does not compress or degrade throughout the growth cycle, maximizing root development, structure, and size.
  • Coco coir’s capillary and wicking properties provide consistent moisture and nutrient availability.
  • Coco coir is reusable, renewable, and compostable.
  • Blended with silicate-based Hydrolite for stronger, hardier plants.
  • Double washed coco-coir for low salt content.
  • Naturally aged and composted to remove tannins from coco-coir.
  • Optimum air to water root zone ratio.
  • Increases nutrient availability between feedings.
  • Decreases nutrient leaching due to high CEC rating.
  • Maximize yields by fertilizing at every watering without risk of salt buildup.
  • Nutrient buffered.
  • Ecologically responsible alternative to conventional potting soils.

Q: What is the ideal pH?
A: Between 5.5 and 6.2

Q: What should my ppm be during each phase of growth?
A: It is hard to get a true reading using organic nutrients. When using inorganic salts this is a general ppm guideline.

Q: Can I use humic or fulvic acid with Liquid Karma or Pure Blend Pro?
A: No, it is already included in both formulas

Q: What is the ideal water temperature?
A: Between 68° and 75° F, or 20° and 22° C.

Q: Can I use hydrogen peroxide with Pure Blend Pro or Liquid Karma?
A: No. Hydrogen peroxide will kill off the beneficial micro organisms present in Pure Blend Pro and Liquid Karma.

Q: How is Triflex different from other 3 part formulas?
A: Triflex is unique because it contains a vast array of organic additives that are not present in other custom formulas. Triflex is formulated with vitamins, amino acids, liquid compost, seaweed, humic acid, fulvic acid, and tissue culture ingredients.

Q: How are Botanicare's® trays different from others on the market?
A: Our trays are made from extra thick, high impact, virgin ABS plastic with U.V. inhibitors and have a smooth finish.

Q: What does Clearex do?
A: Using Clearex will pull away unwanted salts surrounding your root system and dissolve salts locked up in your grow medium. Clearex has a balance of simple sugars and carbohydrates that will not disturb the osmotic pressure of root hairs protecting against potential harmful pathogens.

Q: When should I use Hydroplex?
A: Hydroplex should be used throughout the fruiting/flowering stage.

Q: Is it safe to use with other bloom stimulants?
A: Bloom stimulants should never be used together because the high PK values of 2 products will cause burns and lockouts in the plants However, multiple bloom stimulants may be used if trying to achieve development using these products individually at different stages of flower development.

Q: Why should I use Pure Blend Pro Soil?
A: If you are growing in soil or clay, colloidal particles bind up phosphorous and the microbes in the soil compete for phosphorus. This formula has double the phosphorus compared to our regular hydro-organic formula. You can also use Pure Blend Pro Soil as a ripening formula in hydro-organics during the last few weeks of flowering.

Q: What is so unique about your coir fiber?
A: Our coir fiber has very low salt content, is aged a minimum of 18 months and has finished its decomposition stage. It has an extremely high air content, has extra long fibers and is double sifted to reduce dust. Cocogro is also buffered to balance out the high potassium naturally present in coir.

Q: How often should I change my reservoir water?
A: You should change your reservoir water every one to two weeks.

Q: Can I leave an aeroponics system running all the time or should I use a cycle timer?
A: Cyclical and continuous feeding are both ideal for aeroponic growing. If you decide to run on a cycle timer, 1 minute on 4 minutes off is ideal.

Q: What is the difference between Pure Blend Original and Pure Blend Pro?
A: Pure Blend Original is an organic compost solution to be used as a supplement with standard plant foods. Pure Blend Pro is a hydro-organic, stand alone plant food to be used as the primary fertilizer. It is beneficial for both hydrogardens and soil gardens.

Q: Should I top off with straight water or with nutrients added?
A: Add 20-25 % strength nutrients to the topped off water.

  • 1. Fill pot or container with Cocorox™.
  • 2. Fully hydrate Cocorox™ with a pH balanced nutrient solution.
  • 3. Transplant seedling, clone/cutting, or mature plant into Cocorox™.
  • 4. Water container until a 10-20% runoff is achieved.
  • 5. Irrigate daily with nutrient solution*.

*Note: Frequency of watering may require adjustment depending on environmental conditions. Variables to consider are, but not limited to: temperature, light intensity, size of container, and maturity of plants. Individual circumstances may vary.

Tips for successful growing in Cocorox™:
  • When using Cocorox™ thoroughly water each container until runoff occurs.
  • Begin using nutrients immediately to avoid any deficiencies.
  • Adjust nutrient solution pH to an optimal range of 5.8-6.2.
  • Fertilize with every watering.
  • Do not allow Cocorox™ to dry out to ensure consistent root zone moisture.
  • Supplement with Cal-Mag™ if using a non-coco specific nutrient.
